Oh, and I developed TOD (http://www.pineight.com/tod/default.htm) and Lockjaw (http://www.pineight.com/lj/default.htm).
You'll find that a lot of the other forum members prefer the TGM series (http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/../wiki/index.php?title=TGM_series).

TGM stands for Tetris the Grandmaster.

I'm one of the members here that regularly traverse through several tetris varieties, one of which is TDS.

And in case you think that's a tool-assisted speedrun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tool-assisted_speedrun), look at master mode where you can see his hands (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwC544Z37qo).

Yes, a human performed that. And yes, I'm the player...or at least that's what I'd like to say. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I'd say we are, yes. Though none of use are as good as the top Japanese TGM players. Almost all of the people here hold a rating of over 7000 on Tetris DS wifi. Most are over 7500 or 8000.
As a complete side-note: Petit, have you considered adding the Ti Gm superplay to your TGM article?

Oh, that's not a bad idea.
EDIT: done (http://bsixcentdouze.free.fr/tc/tgm-en/tgm.html).

Sadly though, you get the feeling we'll always be a few steps behind.

I don't get that feeling.
I think the only way we'll get a player as good as Jin8 is if he actually joins.

positive psychology, rosti. you're thinking present detriment / future detriment. you need to start thinking present benefit / future benefit. jono's already capable of tgm3 speeds. so that's one.
best advice anyone's ever given me about tetris was from some guy on tnet who was beating my brains out. i was like "i can't beat you, i just don't have your speed." and he said, "not yet." it was pretty enlightening.
i'm with caffeine. everyone go watch the matrix.
and jono's 40 line is world class.

Well, yeah. I remember a time when I'd look upon everyone else here with utter awe. I didn't think I'd ever get close to the top 500 on TDS worldwide, let alone inside the top 50.
Still, it just feels like we're chasing a moving bar. Whenever we get a bit closer, it'll get raised a bit more. We're damn close to a Death Gm, but as of yet we still don't have one. We're also kinda stuck as far as Ti goes, because I can't see a way of us playing that in the foreseeable future.
When I said "top Japanese players", I was referring to the top ten or so. I really don't think we'll be able to catch up that far.
Still, we can get ourselves amongst their elite players, and we already have done, even if not that comprehensively in the TGM series. And there'd be no fun in quitting.
I'm certainly not going to stop playing TAP until I have Gm in Master and Death.
