Two deals recently brought to my attention by users from another site:
Hori Real Arcade Pro EX (360) (http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=212448551&listingid=70069871) for 59.99 USD before shipping.
Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 (PS3) (http://www.japanvideogames.com/Hori-Real-Arcade-Pro-3-Joystick-p/ps3-873124001822.htm) for 69.99 USD before shipping.

Damn shipping. I am getting some money and want to get a stick, but the shipping, even ground shipping, will bump it up to almost 100. Still, not a bad price. I will look around, but I might get one. Thanks for the link.

I take it neither of these are Sanwa parts?

No. The joystick itself is, but the buttons are Hori. Unless you get the SA version, which is all Sanwa. Conversely, the SE version is all Seimitsu.

I take it neither of these are Sanwa parts?

According to the site sdtekken.com (http://sdtekken.com/tech-area/arcade-sticks/) , both the sticks use Sanwa JLF joysticks, but with HORI pushbuttons.

Here's a link to the HRAP3: http://sdtekken.com/tech-area/arcade-sticks/ps3-hrap3/
Here's a link to the HRAP-EX: http://sdtekken.com/tech-area/arcade-sticks/hori-real-arcade-pro-ex-us-ver-360/

Note that the HRAP3 uses the standard JLF-TP, whereas the HRAP-EX uses the JLF-TM.

The M presumably stands for "microswitch", and on the JLF-TM, the microswitches are entirely separate, so that 8 wires are needed to connect it up.

The P presumably stands for "PCB", and on the JLF-TP, the microswitches are soldered to a PCB that commons the 4 grounds and collects all the terminals together at the side, so that a 5-wire harness can be used.

Other than this difference, the sticks are essentially identical, all the other components - the shaft, the actuator, the restrictor, etc - are the same on both models.

I bought a HRAP3 during December, it's definitely a Sanwa stick and Hori buttons. The HRAP3-SA is the only variant I heard of that comes shipped with Sanwa buttons too but (buying in the UK) it seems to be of limited availability and I couldn't find a price less than £160 online! I purchased a regular HRAP3 for IIRC £68 delivered, and ordered Sanwa parts from elsewhere: just over £80 all in and you get to pick the colour scheme.

$75 shipped...even I need to jump on a deal like this.

Besides, I haven't spent that much in the last month, so it was about time for another splurge anyway.

HRAP3-EX has been ordered (I figure I'm less liable to hit mobo issues, not to mention I'll probably get a 360 before I get a PS3).

I'll probably get Sanwa buttons at some point in the future; I'd imagine Hori buttons will do for now though.

So yeah, joining the exalted group of stick-players soon, haha. Expect loads of cursing as I get used to it.

Oh you've already ordered... I was about to mention that although the EX has quick disconnects on the buttons, it looks like the stick has the wires directly soldered. There are lots of pictures on this page here: http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/20080710/ggl.htm

Seeing as the stick is already Sanwa, this isn't likely to cause any problems for the majority of people here, but I thought I'd mention it just in case - if one were to decide on changing it, this might prove to be an inconvenience.

I doubt I'll be changing the stick, but if I did, I should be able to wrangle a soldering iron from either my dad or my school and could resolder if necessary. That'd probably be if I managed to kill the stick anyway (which I don't personally see happening for a long time if ever), so I don't really see it as an issue.

Besides, that's a pretty small shortcoming for a good stick for the price.

* Offer available to continental US residents only (Sorry International buyers! Plan ahead and see if a US buddy can help you with this deal)!

I recommend a service like www.shipito.com. I've used it once and had no problems with it. Basically, they are a redirecting service with a U.S. address.
