General rule :
Try to survive as long as you can in M-roll
i just know that every "competitor" need to use MAME with cgwg M-roll cheat. if we use the cheat at level 900 for running chrono display purpose, is it ok about the gameplay values ?
Average 12 rules :
- start .inp record after nvram deletion (optional)
- try 12 successing attempt
- remove the best time attempt
- remove the worst time attempt
- calculate the average time (resting_attempts_time_addition / 10)
- calculate the average lines (resting_attemps_lines_addition / 10)
- report your result
- post your zipped .inp file (optional)
i would like to introduce the average 12 in this table for several reason :
- ranking become more fair and representative of players skills
- M-Roll acuracy is more important than just a lucky try
- take far less time need managment than T.A. Death or master mode
- take advantage of the .inp file !

Level 300 on Death is also faster than 999 on Master. I can actually survive reasonably well at the latter speed, but not the former.

Strongly exact !
DEATH 300 and MASTER 900 are almost the same speed, but ARE and lock delay are set differently..
If you don't lock, DEATH 300 is a bit harder, if you manually lock, MASTER 900 is potentialy faster..
I have tried to compare with P1 at MASTER 900 and P2 at DEATH 300, it is the same speed..

Death 300 has much faster ARE than Master 900. But does this setting to approximate Master 900, based on wiki info, come any closer?
Speed curve: Death Max entry delay: 12 frames (200 ms) Lock delay: 17 frames (283 ms) Max sideways delay: 8 frames (133 ms) Other settings: As for TAP

WHHOOAA !!! http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif I feel it is coming !!
After only 10 days of intensive training, I've dramaticaly improved !!
I was wondering how peoples where able to do such good time in mame but i remembered that the tool i use to train m-roll resistance is "faster" than the original one... so i tried as you do with cgwg cheat and in 1h30 of continues attemps (100~150 try ?) :
http://jagorochi.free.fr/images/m_roll_resistance.png
the last attempt was the one you see on the picture... even if we can think i performed good times (lucky try ?) it's still not good enough compared to the ratio attemps/time result...
imo the time become good once you are able to break 40sec (my average is 35>40 sec), witch mean you don't throw your pieces onto the field praying for a good time
Even if we are able to break the famous 1min02 sec, we still have to succeed it in "real condition" witch is a totally another story http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

I think it does not matter...I can get the same average time with manual locking, it is more advantageous for the "flash memory", but you disrupt your stack faster..
jago, your 4 times : tell me it is not a chain !!? That are your 4 best after the 56 ?
Rosti LFC

I agree with Jago. Yeah, training is good, but to survive the invisibility for 1:02 is really only a fraction of the way there.
You can do it more than once, but unless you can do it almost every other run I think it's a long way to go.
Sure, you can do it during an hour of training, but to do it on a real M-Roll, which is not as often, and which will make you nervous and put you under a lot more pressure is a lot harder.
I've survived 400 speed on Death for nearly 90 seconds (using a keyboard), but for me to hit 500 during a proper run is completely different.

The key is to not remember where everything is...unless you have a photographic memory. Try to remember the surface. There's a reason players often end up at the top after successfully finishing. When they make a mistake, they stack over it and move on. Other than that, stack as neatly as possible to minimize unexpected moments (line clears that didn't clear, piece that didn't lock and ended up in awkward positions, etc.).
Rosti LFC
02-12-2008, 05:08 PM
Neatness is quite important with the invisibility. If you're unsure about the surface, and it's flat, then it isn't too bad. If you're unsure and it's got holes in, then pieces are going to get stuck trying to move across it. If you're unsure, it's usually better to just let it go, and stack flatly over it rather than try and fix it.
ct you got the Death Gm, but i will not let you get the master Gm first http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

So Digital have pretty well resumed the main idea.
http://jagorochi.free.fr/images/inv_tips_1.png
example 1 :
The best way is only to concentrate on the surface, and i would say more : you should not try to memorise the block that compose the surface but more the empty shape that is just over. I mean, you have to know where are the free room for putting the next following pieces. But here it's an ideal way, and it might be different for peoples who try to challenge the shit.
example 2 :
The most easy way for our brain to memorize the surface is to stack as flat as possible. More it is flat more it is easy to remember. thoes examples shows "how you should stack" your piece to stay as flat as possible. You probably noticed by yourself that the ideal solution is on the upper side of the example instead of the bottom. We create holes but a (very) quick look on the surface is still pretty easy to remember... once we acquire exp we can handle "more complicated" surface but for beginning we better start with good basis. there is dozen of useful situation but i don't know them all you'll probably figure them out with exp...
example 3 :
At the beginning it's pretty difficult to build flat and refrain from habit of 20G "visible play" stacking. Worst are misplacement that can't completely change the surface in something unafordable... If you don't know well how is the surface (and i can assure you it arrive quite often) it's better restart builing flat on it, and just concentrate on the new surface. trying to throw randomly your pieces on hole by hoping recovery is impossible and furthermore the "brain concentration" you spent on it may totally make you forgot about the rest of the surface.... witch is the worst situation.
example 4 :
As always, you have to practice again and again and again and again, the challenge to let your brain acquire the needed experience. The point is that you don't really work your brain for photographic memory, but more on visual recognition of common pattern that come often ...
so in fact this is not much difficult than acquiring automatism for playing 20G, when you are beginner... imo it's just another (insane) step on your understanding and learning of ARS and 20G...
When you are moving the active piece on the stack, notice that it "may" help you to recall about the situation of the stack :

Are Texmaster Special 999 D records eligible? If not, I believe my best in MAME in the invisible roll is ~53 seconds. I think my average time is around 40~45 seconds, but I'll have to do the average 12 thing to be sure.

My god..How long have you practiced ??
My average, if I count the failed attempts around 30sec, should be between 37 and 40..
No new best one since my 52..
yeah of course ! why not, it will not change much as long as you play with standard TAP rules.
congrats Kitaru, keep going http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
i wasn't playing much m-roll since 1 month but i'm restarting and use 999D as well.

Judging by the first frame showing a tetromino and the last frame before the field is revealed, this is 57.6 seconds.

It is very interesting..Kitaru, you are a "mine d'or" of stacking technics..
Your choice to focus on the stability of 2-3 lines thick is very good..
I start exactely like you if I can't build very easily a tetris in the begining..
Then I never remember why, but my stack disrupts after ~15 sec..
And I get up until ~3/5 to stabilize again and do surviving until the end..
Anyway, I was true..It is not necessary to be a Master M player to attack the m-roll.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Yep, the timer doesn't work properly when you level lock 999. It only updates on certain frames, and in actuality does not affect the real time at all. My records have a Gm in 00:00:00, hahaha.

I have a trick for making invisible tetrises; just keep restarting until you get an I piece start.
If you start with an I piece, put it vertical in column nine.
>If you get a Z, Place it next the I to make an overhang and slip the next T under it.
>If you get an S, place it vertically next to the I to make an overhang and slip the next T under it.
>If you get a J, place it sticking up next to the I.
>If you get a L, place it butt-down next to the I.
If you get a T, place it in column 8/9 with the "point" pointing right. You can now slide any piece under it.
>If you get another I, place it vertical in column 8 and stick a L next to it.
If you follow these, you'll always end up with slopes shaped so that other pieces fit perfectly. If you get a flat wall, just repeat and make another slope. Now you only have to remember the surface of your slope, and then when it's all 4 blocks high, IRS and I to the side and repeat.
....That's pretty complex. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

except for the fact that you can't bank on getting an I piece in a real game so even putting time into that is just plain stupid...

i would say even more : Pretty pointless.
Ok that's cool to do some Tetris in Invisible, But you'll probably understand when you'll get "M", that "just keep restarting until you get an I piece start" is stupid.
oh and "novanova" stuff is not public, and will be not because this is an outdated "only compiled" program that use copyrighted media. (and that i don't even have anymore on my HD)

When you're starting at the M-roll, it's actually not pointless, because you can keep starting. It'd be pretty stupid to restart if you were in the "real" M-roll though.

Except that's the only thing that actually matters. Why train in a scenario that is completely different to the real thing?

What excellent advice given to us by one of the greatest players ever to grace Tetrisconcept, I must keep this in mind the next time I start the invisible roll with an I and a repeating pattern of pieces, which happens so many times that it may as well be automated!

The piece sequence does not have to be repeated. You know what, let me just tell you it in a way you'll understand. MAKE A SLOPE SO THAT YOU ONLY HAVE TO REMEMBER THE SURFACE OF THE SLOPE.

This is probably my best recorded run, although it is evident that I lost my mind and just sort of mashed through the pieces after I lost control of the stack.
Also, when does the TAP M-roll end? In the case of the TexMaster M-roll, the answer is apparently "after more than 60 seconds." I thought the TAP M-Roll was straight-up 3600-frames-at-60-frames-per-second singular minute and no more, but I could be misinformed. I suppose I should check later.

the recent "???????"?misadventure boosted me up on my training...
the 61,5 in red mean "completed m-roll"... so the average is a little bit biased since we can't get over
this is a nightmare...
http://www.the-shell.net/images/average12_05nov08.jpg
recently i'm always crying because i can't succeed the M-Roll, and particularly when i see Kan doing it so easily... my level is not bad but still far from his level.
But after all it's fucking crazy difficult challenge and Kan told me that there is about 40 peoples who got the Gm orange line. that's quite few.
i should revise my judgment about "everybody can do it". i'm now finishing general design of a new application that will help me in m-roll understanding (i hope), and general technical analysis. But i must hurry to finish this program before new years day.
i took the red pill long time ago, i now awake if want to read into the matrix http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif , or maybe i'm not the one.... shit i don't wanna finish like Cypher
