View Full Version : Billmaan- about your blockstats sig (edit: I figured it out)

Why does your blockstats sig work? No one else's does =(

Oh, it must because this forum allows BBCode and not HTML. I'm a rookie so I'll mess with it until you reply.

Hmm, I'm using what seems to be the right format but it won't work:

Ok, I figured it out by screwing around with Billmaan's sig's properties. Apparenty he used http://tinyurl.com (http://tinyurl.com/default.htm) to shrink the long blockstats url, then added "/fake.gif" to the end, something I would have never known to do:

Heheh, yep. This forum software doesn't let you use [img] tags with a URL that doesn't end in an "image" extension, and for some reason just adding a spurious .gif/.jpg/whatever to the blockstats URL wasn't good enough. I figured it was either due to the length or due to the fact that the image was being generated by a script, but either way TinyURL fixes the problem.

Strange... I thought Caff turned HTML on just so they would work. In fact, I'm almost 100% sure that my sig was done in the raw html (cut and pasted). Just curious if anyone else is having this problem, and if it would be helpful on blockstats to add a "forum" BBCode version (since PHPBB seems to be so popular).

On a seperate note, does anyone know if it's compatible with Nintendo's forums? I'ver never seen how their sig's work (not ranked high enough).

Er... I'm not that great, but I'm not THAT bad, either:

Billmaan

Whoops, I forgot a step in there. When you set up the tinyurl, make sure to append an ampersand (& symbol) to the end of the blockstats URL. The extra "/fake.gif" will get appended to the real URL, and the ampersand stops it from interfering with the blockstats script.

EDIT: as of right now, HTML does appear to be on, so you can in fact use the blockstats-provided code: <a href="http://www.blockstats.org/stats/user_Billmaan+.html"><img src="http://www.blockstats.org/libraries/playerimage.php?pid=07b873387bd4ae0afc74b2fb393ffc fa"></a>

However, you have to uncheck "Disable HTML in this post".

EDIT 2: um...okay, so apparently you also need to set the "always allow HTML" option in your profile. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

There seems to be some kinda mistake in my stats... it constantly dips then up again.. dunno what thats about.. I don't even remember getting that low.... weird..

I just checked on the Hub.. seems I have someone who copied my name...

In case anyone missed this- change this option in your profile and the blockstats.org sigs will work.

Nicholas- can you make "always allow HTML" the default option?

Oh, and I'm getting close to the required amount of posts on the Nintendo forums to be able to post pics- I'll let you know if it works as a sig over there (which it should).

edit: what's up with quotes?

caffeine
06-03-2006, 10:22 PM
quotes = version bug. next phpbb2 update will fix it. auto-html-- will work on later.

edit: for quotes, just take out the name. make them nameless quotes and they'll work fine.

TGM-Liem - For what it's worth, blockstats will do it's best to default to the highest score. The graph will take a dip, but a majority of the time, it should display the highest score for any given name. Hopefully this works as a solution... If only Grey would get back to me after my last message to him about whether or not Nintendo actually providing a better way for Blockstats to exist (but I just dont' see that happening).

If you're looking for a good counter example, Jo is really not working in this regard.

Jo's top rank shows *most of the time* That's part of the problem with 2 letter names http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif

I just got Koopa there, which is the rank required to have a sig. Their forums use HTML, not BBCode, but you can't use "php" in posts or sigs, so the actual blockstats formatted sig link won't work. They have also prohibited the use of tinyurl, so I used briefurl to change the blockstats url and the sig worked (no fake.gif required).

My only concern is their advertising rule- they might not be too happy with "blockstats.org" in the sig image.

Ok, so I've made some changes as should be visible...

<img src="http://www.blockstats.org/memberimage/3ae73ed99250514f2c8c3ebac0af5a55.gif">

It's obviously showing more information (The TDS Points)

It's obviously now black on grey.

It's obviously no longer displaying the blockstats.org (Help with advertising hopefully sully?)

I've also modified the code that is given to you in the members section of blockstats to give you a .gif instead of a .php, but for those of you who don't want o take the time to go into your account, the translation is quite simple:

Old URL:

http://www.blockstats.org/libraries/pla ... bac0af5a55 (http://www.blockstats.org/libraries/playerimage.php?pid=3ae73ed99250514f2c8c3ebac0af5a 55)

New URL:

http://www.blockstats.org/memberimage/3 ... af5a55.gif (http://www.blockstats.org/memberimage/3ae73ed99250514f2c8c3ebac0af5a55.gif)

I ask if you can keep the link to your personal stats, it would be much appreciated. Let me know if that gets rid of the need for things like TinyURL, etc... If not, I can try to do more for ya.

The blockstats.org bit didn't bother any of the other forums I frequent, so I don't know if the Nintendo deal has an issue or not. I'd rather have had it on there, even if someone did still click on it they'd wind up at the site.

Good work!.

I don't mean to be a nitpicker, but could you change "TDS Points" to "TDS Rating"??

And as for taking off the url, is it possible to have two different ones- one with TDS Rating and one with blockstats.org?

I've juste made two little gif for those who want a nicer, more explicit signature.

Here are the base block:

http://www.dstouch.com/~pprince/tds/bb/blue.gifhttp://www.dstouch.com/~pprince/tds/bb/lblue.gifhttp://www.dstouch.com/~pprince/tds/bb/green.gifhttp://www.dstouch.com/~pprince/tds/bb/orange.gifhttp://www.dstouch.com/~pprince/tds/bb/purple.gifhttp://www.dstouch.com/~pprince/tds/bb/red.gifhttp://www.dstouch.com/~pprince/tds/bb/yellow.gifhttp://www.dstouch.com/~pprince/tds/bb/gray.gif
From here you can do anything with a simple image manipulation program, say paint.net (http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/default.htm) (who is better than MSPaint because it supports layer).

Juste remember that:

T = purple

L = orange

Reverse L = blue

O = yellow

I = light blue

S = green

Z = red

Garbage = grey

and that blockstats' banner is 30px high, while the base block are 9x9 (and it's one pixel too much to fit in The_Tool :/). A T piece is 9*3=27px, so you need 3 extra pixel for surrounding image to fit the banner (I made mine's 20*30 to leave some sort of padding for the text). Last thing, the banner's background is not white, but #F6F4EF.

I'll be home later, I'll play around with it then.

If you happen to make a O, I, S, and Z before then, that's cool =)

I tried and I have no idea what to do with paint.net.

Edit: I'm pretty fucking frustrated right now. "Let me go back and play with it some more, I'm sure I can figure it out." WRONG. I created a new pic, selected the size in pixels, chose the color that you gave the hex code for, pasted in one of the blocks, but I simply cannot figure out how to move it around. I can stretch it but I can't move it. I can paste 4 in right on top of each other, but I can't move them around. I really have no idea what the hell I'm doing. Help.

EDIT: The last digit of TDSRating is pushed off the right side of the image.

Ok, so I'm feeling a little guilty now, because I recommanded a program I didn't use °^-^ (in fact, I use photoshop (I do have a legal license !)).

Anyway, you need to make a *bigger* selection, then move your mouse to the exact center, until the cursors turns into something like this.

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/9899/paint1mz.jpg

Then, you'll be able to move the selection.
