This is Sparta!!!
OK. Rules are simple enough. Use the level cheat to lock the level at 301, and see how long you can survive.
This is mainly a competition for those who are currently 200~500 and would use the 300 cheat to train, to perhaps provide an extra bit of motivation and add a competitive edge. As a result, I will not be including times from players with m-ranks (or above) in Death. Players with mortal skills only please.
To use the cheat, go into Notepad (or some other text editor), and paste the following text:
:tgm2p:62000000:00000000:00000000:00000000:P1 Level
:tgm2p:00110000:06064bba:00000001:ffffffff:1
:tgm2p:00110000:06064bba:00000065:ffffffff:101
:tgm2p:00110000:06064bba:000000c9:ffffffff:201
:tgm2p:00110000:06064bba:0000012d:ffffffff:301
:tgm2p:00110000:06064bba:00000191:ffffffff:401
:tgm2p:00110000:06064bba:000001f5:ffffffff:501
:tgm2p:00110000:06064bba:00000259:ffffffff:601
:tgm2p:00110000:06064bba:000002bd:ffffffff:701
:tgm2p:00110000:06064bba:00000321:ffffffff:801
:tgm2p:00110000:06064bba:00000385:ffffffff:901
:tgm2p:00110000:06064bba:000003e7:ffffffff:999
Save the file in the main directory of Mame (the same one as the .exe) and call it "cheat.dat". Make sure cheats are enabled in the options, and when you go to the in-game menu (Tab by default I think) there should be a 'Cheats' option, and you can turn it on from there.
For other cheats, look in the "Invisibility Resistance" thread.
I'll add a leaderboard if there is enough interest.
A vague score to get things running:

I think the ranking of this challenge below the M grade is to keep the leader board from turning into a Tetris DS style 999-fest.

Yeah. I'm assuming m-rank players would basically be able to play indefinitely. It might not be the case, but I don't want times of like 5 minutes, and I have to draw a line somewhere.

You should add the cheat and how to use it in the first post Rosti. I would, but I'm forbidden from posting in this thread. In fact, you haven't even read this post. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

Sometimes I practice at 600, 700 or 800..Because I am bored to see everytime the same screen..My favorite is 700.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
Anyway..Even if I don't reach m rank any more..I still improve..
I think it is a normal cycle, I remember c_t had some bad period at ~550, just before reaching 717..
I will try to get directly DEATH 7XX for my next record.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif to beat kotetsu and matt in a raw.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif
And I lost before 3min because I checked my time and said :
"HOLY SHIT !!! 2:15 !!! I beaten my previous record !!!!!"
One advice..Do never watch your time.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_evil.gif
If I had performed this 2min48 on a real game.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif Death 9XX... http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gifhttp://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

Now I finally understand why I always got killed as soon as I got over 299 in death. It is quite a difference, and I always thought it was the tension that made me nervous. I've recently started to use the level lock cheat to practice death at 301, and at first I felt like "heck, how can anyone play at this fast" as pieces locks just so much quicker than ever before. Standard 20G moves that works in death 200 are indeed useless, just as ct pointed out in another thread.
I noticed that if you concentrate on the game instead of focusing on how darn fast it is, stacking is not as impossible as it first felt. I still get finished off quickly but I am working on it http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif 400 is still too fast and I am just forgetting about 500 for a while. (impressive work, Amnesia!).

Just a remind :
-To master the DEATH 300 --> practice the manual lock at 300
-To master the DEATH 400 --> practice the manual lock at 400
Now I am about to start an intensive training period with manual lock
at 500.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif
And one thing I have noticed when I saw c_t in action during the last summer..
Sometimes, you really must excite you on a particular move !!
You have to develop an "electrochoc motion" on your hand..
I don't know which support you use to play, but if it is a joystick, it should resist..
And other thing you have well mentioned, some move with "tap tap" are almost impossible to perform, unless you are a cyborg..
tap tap is possible at 300, even at 500, but "tap tap tap" must be excluded..
Every time you must find moves with 1 tap or full DAS..And a minimum of rotation..
The 852 video of c_t show it very well, only simple and basic move..You must learn to resist with simple moves, with safety and mastered holes..

I think that the following is something I've only recently realised and I need to get used to (it's already been said above, but I'm stressing it):
Over 300, stick to the simple moves, even if it means making a hole that a more complicated move wouldn't have made. This is simply because the complicated move will most likely not work, and will leave you with a far greater problem than the hole that the simple move would have left.
Maybe when I can embed this into my stacking, I will improve past 446.

-To master the DEATH 300 --> practice the manual lock at 300
-To master the DEATH 400 --> practice the manual lock at 400
EDIT :
-To master the DEATH 300 --> practice the manual lock at 300
--> (1 week intensive)
-To master the DEATH 400 --> practice the manual lock at 400
--> (2-3 weeks intensive)
And for DEATH 500 I will test and report back after experience.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
I know jago did it and that seems to work..
When I say "to master", that doesn't mean "to survive indefinitly",
but 3-4 min seems enough..

you can't hold more than 1:07 at DEATH 300 but you can reach SECRET S8 under lv.100..
I can hold more than 2min at DEATH 500 and I can't reach SECRET S7 under 200..
The world is so amazing...I am still thinking how I can include your so particular character in my manga of Tetris... http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

It's mainly that they test different skills, like the Big Mode challenge does. Death mode is purely your ability when forced to think quickly, while the secret challenge is more about how well you can stack when you have lots of time to plan ahead.

Rosti's right. Different challenges test different abilities. I for one am terrible with the > challenge in terms of efficiency.

Yes I saw it..It is very very interesting..
I know I am not a good stacker, and the fact I almost can't perform a Triple T Spin could explain why I am so medium for the > challenge..
I know I have a big lack of speed as well..
Finally..I am wondering what I have in Tetris.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
When I see the improvement of Bou, I begin to be very worried about my skill..

small increase to my record... even though my average survival time is 30 seconds. I'm probably not ready for this mode yet, but I play it anyway.

I spent a while playing/training at 300 today, and got a few runs that survived up to the 1:15 mark with manual locking the whole time.

Sorry for the necro, but I was rather pleased with this run.

Some manual locking when the stack wasn't too messy, mostly just left and right movements.
