Did a test 40 Line game with SZSZ using IRS and ended up playing over 240 tpm.

1. IRS to vertical orientation. (Keep it pressed)

2. DAS to wall (use Instant) (Keep it pressed in whichever direction)

3. Tap the hard drop key as fast as possible.

really nice to see you playing and submitting an highscore, Rich!

but could you try to complete 40 lines? otherwise it would be unfair to add you to the above highscorelist!

nice to have some more normal tetris players here... then i am not the only one that is more fixed at the bottom of all those highscore lists here in the forum http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Of course, if you're going for a time record, you don't have to actually use the cascades.

fnord
07-16-2007, 11:59 PM
Why are cascades slow? It seems like 8+ line clears would be better for time, since bigger line clears means clearing lines less times, and you'd have to go through clear delay less. Though it seems to take longer for the stacked I tetrominoes to fall into the hole to clear lines than hard dropping would.

by the way: do you have any interest in blockout? Jean Luc Pons, programmer of blockout II, currently adds some skinning to his blockout game. he asked for some ideas and / or good textures etc...

I've never played Blockout much before, but the game looks quite interesting. What are the minimum system requirements (would it run on my archaic 233 or 500 mhz PCs?).

I don't really have anything floating around on my hard drive per-say (all of my LJ skins I either create from scratch using PSP, or chop out of screenies of the various original Tetris games' versions), but feel free to use/edit anything from any of my skins for Blockout if you (or Jean) wish -:)

Anyhow, I'll have to check out B2, dunno if it will run on these aging clunkers though <G>.

oh that would be really cool to know! could you please make a test? but you need directX, what windows version runs on your machines?

anyway - if you find some time to try out blockout II, please let us know how it was running on your lower end (as of today) computers.

and for the beginning, try out 3x3x10 flat mode, this is nearly identical to normal tetris, as you only need to rotate around 1 axis, i.e. good to get started with 3d tetris and get into the game.

I'm running Windows 98SE on all PCs, as well as DirectX v8 (if the game requires v9, that will be a no-go, as it's incompatable with my aging hardware).

Hehe, I think a lot of it has to do with luck <G>. I don't know what it is about cascade mode, but I myself don't stand nary a chance in any of the other game modes (re: the other LJ records threads). My best times for standard gravity 40-line mode don't even come close to the ones posted in the other thread, and compared to those records, my meager times are almost embarrising to post <LOL>... my brain simply doesn't work that fast <LOL>!

Imagine my surprise to find that I could actually be competative in cascade mode (at least right now, before other folks have posted their best times)... the only explaination is sheer luck <G> - or rather, the physics of that mode -:)

Not so impressive. I found that I get a higher score when I just go for tetrises and not 8+s.

That's because some of the scoring curves don't have special programming for cascade mode.

Huh... I feel pretty stupid now. I'd think LJ would be one of the ones that reward 5+ line clears differently. Is TNT64 the only one that does? If that's the case, maybe the records should be kept in TNT64 scoring since highscores in cascade mode with a scoring system that discourages actually using cascades... seems kinda counter-intuitive.
