As suggested by PetitPrince.
As in every record thread, there are rules.
- All games should be played using the latest version of Texmaster (http://tetrisconcept.net/forum/showthread.html?t=2). Current Version: Texmaster 2009-2 beta2
- No glitches that change the gameplay, please (i.e. top row repeating).
- All games must start at level 0.
- This topic is for TGM2P (TAP) style of play. For Terror Instinct style, see Special Ti & Sudden Ti (http://tetrisconcept.net/forum/showthread.html?t=53)

So if a new version comes out all the old scores are automatically invalid?

One thing it probably does mean is that a grade on a newer version will outrank the same grade on an older version. I seem to remember that that's the policy in at least one of the Lockjaw threads.

I think you've answered that question yourself in another thread:
Aaarhh.. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif
It is so so hard to play on MAME after 5 days on your Astrocity..
I have the feeling that the game doesn't react to my moves..
...Which is exactly why people play Texmaster instead of MAME. Also, some people don't have the required system specs to run MAME.

i could argue that these modes in Texmaster are more accurate for me than playing the originals in MAME because lag is certainly not accurate. even TGM1 in MAME wouldn't ever run smoothly for me.

If you want total accuracy, then sure Texmaster might not be for you. For those that don't mind the inaccuracies and just want to play, it's a great alternative.
And you just brought up THE reason to have a separate board for Texmaster runs. If there is none, the people that choose to play on Texmaster will not have their own rankings because Texmaster =/= TAP.

MAME has lag, which makes gameplay slower, thus "slowing down" the speed of the game.
Rosti LFC
05-21-2008, 07:01 PM
Ghetto, you're wrong there.
When we say MAME has lag, we don't mean that it's not running at 100% speed (though that can be an issue). We mean that it has a delay between you pressing the button and the game registering the input. With some versions it's as many as three frames between the button being pressed and the piece actually responding. Not immediately noticeable to everyone, but when you've only got a few frames to play with it can make a difference.
If anything it makes playing on MAME more difficult, rather than easier.
I do find lag-free MAME to be easier than Texmaster though.

well guys, the score you have for me is from a previous version of texmaster (no glitches used, and I have a video of the Lvl 470 performance on Facebook as YouTube took it down).
My best sudden score in the new version is a measly 349 as shown here:
I customized the backgrounds & sounds in the new version, so not sure if that affects the fairness.

Now to do it in TAP with the MAME input lag... I got pretty close with the S7 shot there (quite close to S8), and I know I'm an S9 player, just gotta play fast and go for tetrises.

I was angry that you lose so early DIGITAL, I wanted to listen it until the end..
500-999 music? I dunno, ask around...
http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif You could listen to the whole thing in the sound test.
As for my death, it was a downhill battle due to the mistake near the beginning of level 800. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif That misdrop with the J caught me off guard and led to several other mistakes. To catch my focus and rhythm again, I sacrificed a bit of my placement decision to put more effort into the speed. That eventually led to the death though. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif Ah well, better luck next time. http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

This post (http://www.tetrisconcept.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=29741#p29741) says it has something to do with decorations on entries in the game's leaderboard. You get a green line for reaching level 999; you get an orange line for surviving the credit roll.
Well, I didn't survive as long, but this is an incredibly good time for me:

Is using chime2.wav considered cheating?
SimMarine
09-21-2009, 03:04 AM
Does that happen to be the sound which tells you when you've hit level #99? I've always wondered how to get rid of that for Digi's pack.
There were 2 things I noticed when I first used the pack which I wasn't sure were considered cheating: the sound that lets you know when you've hit level 99 and the field column separators in the background images. I only noticed the latter when seeing screenshots on other PCs as it's not visible on my PC (because of my monitor settings).
To get rid of the level 99 chime just remove the file chime2.wav.cache from the "cache" folder and chime2.wav from the folder "sound" in the "data" folder.
Having said that I'm not saying I believe it's cheating. I just want the gameplay experience to be as close as possible to the real deal. If there's anything else you're not sure about please do let us know.

You probably did not change bg_brightness to 0 in the Texmaster2009.ini as the instructions of digitals pack suggest.
You probably did not change bg_brightness to 0 in the Texmaster2009.ini as the instructions of digitals pack suggest.
I did change the value to 0 as instructed in the readme file. It really is the brightness settings of my monitor. I'm don't like it when the brighness is too high for some reason. But it isn't a problem as I don't need the column seperators anyway. ^^

I'll remember next time. this might also have been because of the "I really don't know why at all, but pressing F5 to take a screenshot works fine... except it also closes Texmaster." bug in one of the recent versions. I probably pressed F5 to screenshot immediately after the run and then it exited on me. Thus I had the screenshot, but no replay. x_x

New Sudden record. I completely killed myself in the beginning of 300, but managed to get a bunch of lines out of it before losing.
EDIT: This was done in an older version of Texmaster, so that I could record videos again, since the newer releases don't support this feature for now.

Sudden Lv824 in 5:17.20
First half time: 3:19.46, second half played in the top half of the playfield.
What annoys me is although that's about more 80 levels at Death500 speeds, it doesn't actually bring me up a notch on the leaderboard.

Aaarhh..
It is so so hard to play on MAME after 5 days on your Astrocity..
I have the feeling that the game doesn't react to my moves..
...Which is exactly why people play Texmaster instead of MAME. Also, some people don't have the required system specs to run MAME.
vmame..:awe:
That is strange..Now mame is as accurate as the real game but there is still a lot of people on Tex.
I tried TI last week end, after a long period on sudden ti and special ti, and I can confirm the huge difference, TI is harder.
So if the difference is the same with TAP and sudden and special, I suggest people to move on vmame instead of continu to play these two modes.
Or play something else fucking hot !!! GO TO HEBORIS C7 !!!

Don't think about it right now, let me just the time to get internet and I will upload for you a good version well prepared.
HEBORISC7 is just terribly better than Tex and TI. The timing has been set to be faster and still more pleasant to play.

Just trsut me and let me the occasion one day to show you the game.
Honnestly, the only two advantages I can see on tex is :
(it will be much shorter than talking about advantages of hebo on tex)
1 : 1000 replays on tex and only 40 on heboris
2 : Much easier to make video on tex
except that 2 points, HEBORIS kills texmaster on every points..

I am just waiting your arguments, maybe I suck for deep understanding of the programmation of a game, but I still remain the player who practiced the most both of the games..I spent 500 hours on both games where you guys you played 800 hours on Tex and 20h on Heboris.
I can hold this topic as long as you want and defend Heboris against everybody here with accurate arguments.

The 2 reasons I didn't like Heboris were:
1. The huge amount of options: Since Heboris was pretty much the first Tetris game I tried all these options were just confusing. Now that I know what they are for I wouldn't see that as a problem but for beginners it's hard to start with.
2. The long time it takes to start: Texmaster simply start way faster.
All in all Heboris is still a great game, but Texmaster feels more.. "handy".
Amnesia
03-04-2010, 12:24 PM
I see the point 1, it is evident that even me I have not tried more than 30% of the options.
But are we the best player of tetris or not ?? We spend time enough on a tetris game to be able to handle the game menu I think.
Honnestly, here is my example, I still don't get the way to correctly set the buttons on tex, the process is boring !! in heboris you have a clean menu to set automatically keys..
Heboris was the first tgm-like game i played, too. I liked the game, and all the options, like road, ace, and the ability to try out different rotation systems. the only problem i had with it was the installation. i was never sure if i did it correctly, or wich version to use. i still dont know wich version is best, and i dont know what the latest is.
i love texmaster also, its handy (completely agree with Deeem2031 here), it runs on crappy pcs, its fun to play and easy to set up. except for the joystick configuration maybe, didnt get how to do that properly either. i had to go through trial and error until i had the joystick setup i wanted.
i should also say that i never played tgm games on a real arcade so i dont know how big the difference in all the game modes really is (compared to both games). for someone that is used to how certain games work that could come into play.

Use Nullpomino. (Alternatively... I think someone should make a key configuration utility for TexMaster. Maybe I'll stop being lazy and do something like that.)
I'd still like to hear how Heboris "kills" Nullpo/Texy in terms of frame timings and such. I find Heboris's timings very awkward in comparison. Master G4 doesn't give enough time to smoothly charge DAS during ARE at later levels -- either ARE is too short or DAS too long. I seem to recall grading feeling similarly unrefined, but I don't have evidence of this at the moment (nor do I desire to dive into Heboris's awful source code to find some... but I remember G2 had grading bugs that were pretty stupid so I wouldn't be surprised if G4 was similarly broken or badly designed.)

I really wonder..
With Tex who gives :
m8 for a game played with 15 tetrises at 7min30
m8 for a game played with 40 tetrises at 6min30
So ok, Heboris has got some strange decisions is attributing a grade but not worse than Tex, really.

Maybe it is simply a question of personal feeling.
When I use Tex, I feel like the game is testing me. When I play G4, I feel like I am surfing...I don't see any problem with the DAS, and ARE is reduced a little bit and lock delay slightly extended. This combinaison of difference makes Heboris faster and safer that TI and Tex, you can get 3 TPS and still feel confortable on Heboris, where you will feel stressed on Tex. I use to clear 7/10 attempts on G4 around 6min and only 3/10 on Tex around 6min40.
What do you prefer ??
And really, I fucking don't care that Tex is closer to TI than Heboris is, I like Heboris BECAUSE of the difference.
i still dont know wich version is best, and i dont know what the latest is
The subtility is here, the last version of Heboris are crappy imo because it tries to approach the timing of TI, the HEBORIS UE C7 I have (I am not sure of the accurate designation) is issued from the first attempt to copy TI on Heboris, I don't know if the Hebo's designer consciously made it this way but the differences they defined make the game terrible actually.
I deeply presented the two games to my girlfriend and Bou, my most powerfull friend of tetris that I use to often see, and the two people agree with the superiority of Heboris.

I think Devil-Doom is terrible on step reset. 300 and up have a frustratingly short lock delay even though the ARE is similar between Hebo and Tex at that point. 600-1000 is crazy, if you can last that long (and I rarely can). However, to me, the Ti Master feels roughly the same on both Hebo and Tex. It's perhaps slightly easier on Heboris, but not enough to make a big difference.
Hebo Mini is terrible on everything though. I play it only for the Ace-Another2 mode.

Ace-Another2 has since been taken under the wing of TIME ATTACK mode in NullpoMino 6.4 (or previous versions' Unofficial Expansions). There really isn't any reason to play Hebomini any more :3

some poor stacking choices here and there but I guess that's what happens when I focus more on speed. Forced myself to manual lock thorough 300-400, not sure if it was even worth it as my stacking was starting to suffer a lot, but once 400 hit things felt much more relaxed!

I think it's when you finish a section in under 3:25, but your line clear animation would take it over 3:25. So it's only a problem right at the limit.
Thanks for the explanation.
