View Full Version : Records: [ALL] 100 Lines Open Challenge
kotetsu213
01-16-2008, 08:13 AM
The rules are simple.
- Clear 100 lines as quickly as possible.
- Well width MUST be 10
- No garbage/initial stack (in other words, the only pieces that should appear in the well are pieces you dropped)
- No items
- SZSZ, all I-pieces, etc are BANNED
Other than that, there are no restrictions. Go crazy, play in any game, use any rules, but if you can, include a replay.

With cascade gravity that's not even an event.
If you could set it up to only give you S pieces then all you need are 5 hotkeys to mash over and over.

Lockjaw has SZSZ, a true line counter (unlike Tetris Worlds), and an Escape key.

I checked the videos on youtube and it's very weird to say the least! I'll try to check it out this weekend if possible.
By the way nice website and I have found a bunch of interesting lockjaw videos on youtube!
I modified one of the "practice mode" replays that was stored on my end (did NOT come from me, mind you) to see what the time the player took to clear 100 lines was.
00:48:70
yes, that's an average of over 2 lines a second.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FZQ7PSBO
the wait settings were insanely high-end - 0 DAS, 0 ARE, 0 Line Clear Delay, 0 Flash Frame, 5 Lock Delay, and 20G - and there actually some mistakes made in it. the person that did this is also the same person to have made a glitching Devil-Quake replay (doesn't work properly 1/2 the time) on my computer.
uncertain as to whether or not it's TAS. (I don't watch the person play)

the MINI one right before before netplay was added.
and in brutal honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if it is TAS. Still mindblowing to see that kind of speed, though.

This is from the DS version of the most recent lj.
Seeing as I'm almost three times slower than the best players in the 40 lines challenge, this result is not really surprising. I'm about three times slower than the top rated players here as well.
This particular challenge was more difficult because one needs to focus for a longer time. My first few times where aroung the 4 minute mark, but it didn' t take long before I started getting times around 3:40 consistenly.
As promised I also tried the 100 lines challenge on the Gameboy version of Tetris. I needed to adapt a little because of the slower DAS. -_-'
My first few times were around 9:30. And then I figured out that I needed to stack higher in order to improve my time. Just as coulour_thief pointed out to me in another thread not so long ago. I also tried to clear more lines at once in order to avoid the line clear delays as much as possible. Instantly my times became a lot better.
My best time so far is 08:37:67 and was played on 05/01/2008. My sister timed the games with a stopwatch.
I may try some more in the coming days, but I think I'll be spending more time getting used to TGM. The few games I played I got rank 1 and around the 300 mark. Hope to get an S rank soon.
Still need to improve my TPM a lot more. Right now I can get close to 80 if I try really hard. About a month ago when I first tried lj my TPM was around 40 so I made a lot of progress. I hope to achieve 100 TPM in the not so distant future. With exams coming up I hope I can still find enough time to improve a little before the summer holidays.
I'm sorry for my long posts. I do this in order to track my progress. ^^

I havent been playing this for a while. I didn't improve that much unfortunatly. If I could keep up the speed from the 40 lines challenge I should have a time around 03:00. So that's what I'm aiming at for now.
Also I couldn't improve my time on the original tetris on GameBoy. It seems 08:37:67 could have been a lucky run. Best time since then is 08:50.

Managed to get under 3 minutes. Should be able to get closer to 02:30. Btw this is from the PC version.

Hebo mini, like Lockjaw, doesn't feel as smooth as Hebo C++. I get "DAS tap jitters" where the tetromino moves one extra space often, and line clear delay feels kinda funky.
Because my time is around 2 minutes, I used a 2 minute ultra run to get the approximate time, which is 1:57 to 1:58.

Hebo UE does have default presets defined for the rotation systems. Perhaps your settings in MINI are not identical?

Might be the ARE2 setting. I'll look into it. Will post a new replay if that's the case once I break my record.
[edit] Not really an improvement but I'll take it. Replay. (http://defender.arcimpulse.com/TC/replay02.sav)

I couldn't believe my time when I first saw it. I always believed I should be able to get closer to 2:30 with my 40 lines time being just under 60 seconds. But to actually go under this time is a real surprise. This is an average of about 57,5 seconds per 40 lines which is really nice. ^^

Yeah did this on LockJaw DS on my first try, pretty bad (like a whole minute off) compared to the top guys. Will get back into tetris soon.
Edit: damn TC making me play more Tetris. I pulled out my old Gameboy and played GB Tetris.

Timed this with my cellphone. I tryed making lots of crap at the bottom so the soft drops were quicker but failed at that and was too lazy to do it again lol, so I just did it normal style with 3-5 bad screw ups. Now I will go study for my exam tomorrow!

Mine was first attempt. I should be able to do it faster than 8 minutes. Nice score, though. I start at level 0 simply because it's easier for me. will try to do sub-7 this weekend...

This thread hasn't been updated in a while so I've asked DIGITAL to temporary grant me ownership. Of course I will be giving the thread back to kotetsu213 when he returns, which I sincerly hope he will do as soon as possible! ^^
I'll update the 100 lines leaderboard later. I'll also be adding a 40 lines leaderboard. Some members don't play LOCKJAW or perform better in other games, so hopefully these people will start posting their best times over here. I'll turn the replay section into a comment section. I will link to your replays or videos over there.
Like it says in the opening post go crazy and if possible provide a screenshot, video replay, save file or some other form of proof.

That's an insane time and score. I tried really hard and couldn't break 6:30. I actually had difficulty breaking 07:00 without using the higher speed levels. At the main screen press DOWN while pressing the START key to be able to play at the higher speed levels. Then I chose level 4 which corresponds with speed level 14 if I'm not mistaken.
For a good time one needs to keep the stack high and/or keep clearing tetrises to keep the line clear delay time waste to a minimum. Unfortunately for me both are too hard. Impressive massi4h!
I also tried improving my 100 lines time on lj DS, but I wasn't able to improve very much.
