Anyone have high scores for NES Tetris? Mine is 622,363---achieved August 1, 2005.

Tongiht I almost beat it, I had one game which was 613,000 and it eneded on Level 28, and soon after that I got another of 594,000 which ended on Level 29. Very close to a new record.

For some reason the orginal NES Tetris is the only one I really, really suck on!

Im not sure why? I can get higher scores on SNES and GB tetris, I think its the colours they really piss me off, I end up trying to sit real close to the tv to try and focus. But personally I dont think I have ever got over 500,000K which is quite bad. Although these days im lucky to play more than 5 games of it a fortnight.

Good luck with that highscore, should try and record it.

Thats pretty good, I might play it for a few weeks straight and see how I go. Maybe.

Oh and deepdrop what level did you start on?

The highest I remember getting was around 720,000. Can't remember the exact score though.

Anyone managed to get past level 29, yet? (heh)

My record is (I think) 400000-something... but that was when I was much younger, and I haven't played it much since (Mostly due to bad controllers)

29 is 1G right? But without lock delay, with the game's slow sideways autorepeat, and with IJS (initial jack shit), I can see how it could become impossible.

Some might call it cheating, but I've always had a theory. . . . You know those "turbo" controllers? The ones which allow a fast auto-repeat when you push a button? I was thinking that if one were to wire up one of those controllers to have the "turbo" function on the D-pad left and right controls, then gameplay past Level 29 could be possible.

YES! I have thought of that many times.

I was wondering if there is a program for the computer for that, like a rapid fire keyboard.

I highly doubt that it would be possible to play at level 29+. The block still goes from the top to the bottom in 1/3 of a second at that level, and there's no block hovering and almost no delay in between blocks.

Maybe so, but a rapid-fire D-pad or a rapid keystroke program, would make the game relatively eaiser and faster to play.

Im still looking for a program to try out,but no luck as of yet.

Anyone know one?

(That was me 2 posts ago, guess I wasn't logged in : P)

Anyway, if you have the actual Nintendo, turbo controllers do exist for it.

I never had one myself, so I don't know how well it would work.

Gah, I wasn't thinking, those are only for the A and B buttons... I'll look around later to see what I can find.

Yeah, I already got one of them to.

But I am really looking for just a program to change my keyboard to turbo keys.

In the control panel there are probably settings for your keyboard for repeat delay and repeat rate. I'm not too sure if this would translate into an emulator but it was crucial for an online site i used to play at. have you guys tried that yet?

05-24-2006, 10:28 AM
No, I have not.

Thank you.

Emulators generally do not use key-repeat events; they use key-down and key-up events.

BPS Tetris (Japan only):

left: move left

right: move right

down: rotate left

A: hard drop

Tengen Tet?is:

left: move left

right: move right

down: soft drop

B: rotate left

A: rotate right

Nintendo Tetris: same as Tengen Tet?is

I know BPS Tetris, dont really like it. Tried maxing the score out one day, I played for an hour or so hopeing the score would'nt have another digit and than! it did.

Bummer for me.

If you're using an emulator, you can remap the controls to put down on the Z key (or B button) and A on the up key (or up on the joystick) for a more natural feel.

That said, you might also enjoy Tetramino (homebrew) for NES (http://www.pineight.com/nes/default.htm).

Thats what I do when I am playing http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif
Still not over pleased.

As for Tetramino do you know how many didigts it reaches, is it only 6 or more? I think its a decent version.

Thanks,

- Jono

P.S anyone having any luck finding an auto repeat program?

use autohotkey. it's an open source macro program. there's a great "ask for help" forum where you can pretty much describe what you need, and they'll make a custom script for you.

Score reaches 6553500. And I've made an updated version with rotation positions that should be slightly more compatible with TDS skills (although I still need to add lock delay and extended wall kick).

tetramino pre-0.30: do not spread outside nesdev.com and tetrisconcept.com (http://pinocchio.jk0.org/nes/nes-tetramino-0.30-nesdev.zip)

At first I did'nt realise you programmed the game yourself tepples.

Nicely done!

I was wondering why you chose to have the score not end on all nine's? Also only just noticed it has a hard drop! which makes it alot better game play wise.

You were also saying something about adding lock delay? Would it change the hard drop behaviour as in would it react similar to TNT?

When the final version is out let me know right away please!

Thanks,

I tried auto hotkey, and it was quite hard to understand. But I happend to bump into one called "keyboard king" and man it is so straight forward and very powerful. Although it did not seem to make much diffrence if any with the nes tetris, tetris elements was going alot faster.

Try it out and tell me what you think.

The score is actually stored with a 1's place (0, 1, 2, ..., 99), a 100's place (0, 100, 200, ..., 25500), and a 25600's place (0, 25600, 51200, ..., 6528000). Part of this has to do with the NES CPU's lack of a divide instruction.

Also only just noticed it has a hard drop! which makes it alot better game play wise.
Actually, it's a firm drop, as there's an 8 frame lock delay. Quick Zangi-moves do work.

You were also saying something about adding lock delay? Would it change the hard drop behaviour as in would it react similar to TNT?

I can make it behave like TGM, TNT, or TDS. But if I add lock delay, I have to add support for speeds greater than 1G at the same time.

I'll keep both this board and nesdev.com posted.

On this twenty-eighth day of the month of July, in the year of our lord two-thousand and six, I have achieved a new personal record in the realm of NES Tetris with a high score of 663,637 points.

This comes almost a year in the making, as my old high score of 622,363 was achieved August 1, 2005. Boom-shaka-laka, baby!
