And I'm holding back tears from how pathetic this is.
muhaaa hah aha ha ha ah
sadly, we're not the first april...
and the worst thing is that if they are able to propose such "feature", there will be people for buying it...

Seperate monthly subscription fees for the game, previews, and hold? What's next, charging for hard drop? Soft drop? Counter-clockwise rotation????
Putting aside first impression,
The online word it often associated with "exclusive" content download charge or period subscription, and it's a juicy business for video game company.
witch lead to what we know for example in MMORPG or XBLA closed system abuses.
TTC probably already proposed this kind of charge on cellphone or something, but with a PC game it is a more important move.
We can think this action is not very smart on the first approach. But by knowing Henk's success on business, maybe we should take another approach : on the long run.
Charging options that should naturally be acquired "as default" is a first step where peoples will simply refuse it.
Multiplying this kind of proposition finally lead to market acceptance and comodization. Peoples will start to compare and choose the lesser of the two evil (it might be a marketing word for that but i don't know it).
As an example, the french cellphone market subscription choice and price...
It may be hard for to use this marketing approach with a Tetris game, but more the first offers are crazy, less vindicatives will be the following reactions to new offers...
Propose charging online play ? Replay download and review ? graphic customisation ? hmmm more interesting and "normal" than just charging for preview and hold in the first place...
It may take times and test, but finally we can expect where it will go.
I'm just sorry for Japan and his peoples to be the first guinea pigs in this market research "test", and (imo) TTC latest business plan (http://tetrisonline.com/default.htm).
Anyway, as part of the minority, we should just relax and enjoy the show (http://youtube.com/watch?v=MTMswBA7OzI)

I think we already had this discussion (http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=11941#11941). It's one of the few things a Free fan game can't clone.

Too sustainable. Better is to alternate S and Z...

i'm pretty sure the pay-for-play model is coming from gungho, not ttc. xbl tetris evolution and splash have downloadable content, but nothing that improves gameplay.
and btw, i absolutely have no problem paying for a quality tetris game. if they give me the game for free, then want to charge me a total of 15 dollars for the rest of the crap that should be default, then i'm probably cool with that, too. as long as it's not subscription, i don't see a problem.

Except few people share that sentiment- and that alone hugely limits the population of the service, consequently limiting the pool of players to compete against. Which then sends the service into a downwards spiral towards its eventual shutdown. This is an online service which costs money to even merely continue existing, after all.

Oh, and, it is a subscription service. A fee gets you a couple months of gameplay and a bare-bones game which you must pay further to un-suckify.

We had no problem with the Korean model. But this isn't the Korean model. It's the "gimme money, gimme more money, and now the game still sucks" model.

Lardarse pointed out to me that for a limited time i can have my misdrops auto-fixed in TOJ (for only 100Yen http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_surprised.gif ) i'm afraid i may have to decline though...

From recent wiki updates (http://www.tetrisconcept.net/forum/../wiki/index.php?title=Tetris_Online_%28Japan%29), I thought that was only to make T-spins send 2-gap garbage.
And the only misdrops that I would need "fixed" are when I press the up key twice in 100 ms because of switch bounce, or when I press the up key while I am pressing the sideways key. Are they charging for a control style?
they should charge for extra garbage bonus

It would be nice to have a definitive price list in English. I don't know if a wiki article is entirely suitable, but a forum post would definitely be...
