do you guys throw on winamp or something similar while playing tetris, or just tetris music is enough?

i know i can't stop believin. i gotta hold on to that feeling.

  2. DTET music

  3. It depends on the game. For TOJ, I have the music turned off in the settings, because it just gets ANNOYING after like two minutes. So I either have winamp open or I simply play it without any music. (I do like the sound effects, and have those on. Not that it matters)

For the online Heboris which doesn't come with any music, I put on winamp, or again, just play it silent.

Any old Tetris game I've played, be it Tetris (GB), or Tetris DX (GBC), or Tetris (NES) the music in the game is just fine.

For Tetris DS I HATE the stupid music, but can't really do anything about it when I'm not in my house.

For NDS_TGM/Ti for DS I listen to the in game music.

As for what I've got playing on winamp. Well... I turn off the Tetris music to listen to music from other video games. Which is basically the only thing I listen to.

TGM/TAP music is awesome; TI has some nice tracks as well. as i play only TGM/TAP and Heboris (with TGM series music), i don't listen to anything else. it would be nice to have all these tracks from whole TGM series in really good quality on a CD soundtrack (the TGM1 OST CD is not enough for me!!!)

When I play tex or Hebo, I try to set a Techno/trance/progressive/makina pack which is the best accorded with the TPM of the game..

Tekken themes and some other electronic tracks...I half expected you to say that you blasted on some classical instead. [IMG]

  8. Actually...I have listened to Mahler's 9th Symphony while playing Sudden Ti...very doom and gloom...deathly...just like Sudden Ti! At least, it was until recently for me.

Usually I just listen to the game's music.

Jono: If the theme from Knight Rider makes you feel like KITT, how does the theme from Bumpety Boo make you feel?

  12. I usually play texmaster with my custom music replacements of various drum n bass and trance beats... but you know I'm wondering if I should turn the music off and play music from a larger sound library, or internet radio. might be more enjoyable, which could translate into better performance?

I'm of the opinion that fast pace music will help you acquire and keep a rhythm more easily. It's like a subconscious but automatic reaction to play faster to keep up with the music. The more synchronous the pace of the music is with your playing rhythm, the more easy it will be to perform consistently at a higher speed.

As for having a variety of music to listen to, I personally think it's detrimental. In certain modes, there's a sense of familiarity with having a static set of music with a constant start point that helps me keep track of where I am and that which cues me in on various checkpoints.

For example, in Sudden Ti, I know when I am nearing 300 because I tend to reach it at a certain point in the music. But of course, there might also be small variations on when you reach 300. However, you will pick up on the little details after awhile and will be able to make very accurate predictions judging from when you reached 100 and 200, the speed at which you are playing after you reached 200, and the types of line clears done. This is much safer for me than taking my eyes off of the game to look at the level counter. Also, it's hard to predict when you will hit 300 by just looking at the level counter alone so you might also have to pay attention to the timer. You also have the third option of not looking at them at all but then you'd lose an advantage in preparation for a section change.

The same idea applies to LJ 40L. When you break a record, it will be at a certain point in the music. Therefore, you will know that you are approaching your record time when you are nearing that point. This is like a variation on the 5-4-3-2-1 announcement of the last few lines only it can be applied throughout the whole game. It also becomes more important the lower your time becomes.

  14. Sometimes I just listen to the default Texmaster music, sometimes I turn it off, sometimes I replace it with soundtracks from other games, usually Salamander 2 or Cho Ren Sha 68k. (I've 2-credited The House of the Dead 3 while listening to the latter.)

techno. smooth and minimal, but banging.

what if you set the BPM of music to play at a speed equal to the number of pieces per minuet you wish to drop?
i think it could help improve timing as you can work towards tapping to the beat.

Sega Ages has nice music, Kiwamemichi as well.

  17. Mostly Pandora.com.

I used to listen to a lot of electronic high BPM music and also hard metal in efforts to get the adrenaline going. Nowadays I just listen to whatever I like the most, which is usually rock. I think listening to what I enjoy works more towards getting "in the zone," which is more valuable than just getting the adrenaline going.

you could have a relaxed bpm that still gave you a tempo to tap to. I'm all electronic, but I am also a musician.

i don't listen to music at a fast tempo, really everything I dig is relaxed. that's where tapping on the half notes help.

    *edit

caffeine, you play so fast you probably don't need extra help to get that tapping in [IMG]

  19. I like to listen to Chiptunes while playing tetris.

The original tetris theme, dunno the name. There is a new version of it in the WII tetris game (which I don't like, not the new theme nor the original).

It is the ULTIMATE tetris song! Whenever I can't fit all my groceries in the fridge, I start humming that song and find a way to fit everything in!

Does anyone have it in MP3?
