/r/: Tetris with Card Captor Sakura

Thread in 'Strategy' started by Kitaru, 12 Dec 2009.

  1. I recently acquired a PlayStation, so I'm probably going to try playing this again and figured I'd ask for some tips regarding optimization.

First off, am I right in saying that an 8-way guide on a stick is the way to go here? If I recall correctly, you can hold up and force 20G. If that's the case, I'd think that you'd want to be in the corners of the gate a lot of the time.

Second off, is there 180 IRS in this? That's another thing I seem to recall someone mentioning.

Are there any non-obvious optimization tips that one could impart?

    Thanks. :)

Yep, 8-way is definitely important in this game; whether you use a stick or some other controller is obviously just a matter of preference. (I actually used the d-pad of a standard playstation controller for most of my records.)

Again yes. There are 2 CW buttons, and 2 CCW buttons, and holding both of either CW or CCW will cause the tetromino to spawn 180'ed. iirc, for the very first tetromino, it's also possible to pre-rotate, that is, rotate it before it spawns (unlike IRS, where it rotates as it spawns) and the new orientation will actually be shown in the preview. (There's a chance that I may be misremembering the pre-rotation, it's possible that it's only available in the vs. mode.)

Well, I'm sure you're already aware, but just in case: when you replay a stage, you're given the choice of using the exact same sequence of tetrominoes, or generating a new one; finding the right sequence in order to minimize the number of tetrominoes played and line clears required is the key to optimization. Also, singing along to the theme tune whenever you hear it is another secret to boost performance and shave seconds off your overall time. Thirdly, there's actually a bug that occasionally causes the game to "forget" your sequence for the first stage if you return to it after playing other stages. (This is the only stage for which this happens; all other stages will remember the last sequence used regardless of how many other stages you play before returning.) Therefore, once you hit on one of the optimal seeds for the first stage, it's well worth playing it over and over until you get a time that you're happy with, before moving on.

Thanks for playing. I hope Kevin still plans on posting his times soon too. Then maybe Amnesia will take this game more seriously as well.

I can confirm that this feature's only available in vs. mode.

    ^^

This bug never occured while I was playing. Though the number of times I've played the first stage is very limited.

Edo posted a few links in the records thread with very interesting strategies and information. But the site has been down for a while now. Maybe someone saved the pages or knows whether it just moved to somewhere else.

Make sure to save frequently, watch the superplay video carefully and memorize piece sequences and setups for faster completion. It may take quite some time before you get a very good piece sequence for some stages.

  4. Alright, cool. Thanks guys. :)

Grinding randomizer seeds sounds like it'll be something of a pain. :p

You have collect very nice information. You have done great job.Tetris Plus and Tetris Plus 2 are very nice and also not expensive at all. I have both of them and like them a lot.

  7. Well... I was going to make a new thread about TCCS, but instead I'll necro this one...

How EXACTLY do I unlock Touya and Yukito in Taisen Tetris mode? I already beat Easy and Normal modes, navigated through YouTube videos, and nobody could answer me, navigated through the few threads in here regarding this game and lots of links posted (well, they were posted years ago, so it can't be helped) were expired.

So... Is it needed to "play a couple of matches in Taisen mode"? How many, exactly? Or... Do I need to do something else? D:

EDIT: Nevermind, I got to a japanese site by using katakanas in Google (how in the hell didn't I come up with this idea before?) and found it.

To unlock Touya, in Taisen Tetris mode against CPU, use Shaoran and win Sakura 1. To unlock Yukito, do the same, but using Touya and winning Ruby Moon.

  8. I took another look at Wayback Machine, it does look to be archived. See https://web.archive.org/web/2009053...ki.jp/~myfavoritegames/sakura/sakura_top.html (or specifically for the CG guide, see https://web.archive.org/web/2009012...:80/~myfavoritegames/sakura/TwCCsakuraEH.html)

EDIT: Ah I see, I came across a different URL than you had. Well, good thing there was an mirror, and good thing this one was archived! :D
EDIT2: While we're here, here is another useful Wayback Machine link for another CCS info page Edo mentioned in the records thread: https://web.archive.org/web/2013061...uaki.net:80/no-weater.TETRISwithCCsakura.html
