hello again & TGM Siren - any alternative to cheat?

  1. Hi,

well, i'm attempting to get back into tetris again after a hiatus, last time was unsuccessfull due to being unable to remove the shackles of GB tetris and still playing in that style (used to be a twin galaxies submitter for Tetris DX),

This time i'm not gonna take the easy way out and actually train for Arika style, even if it'll mean the inevitable drop in play at first!

Anyway - the siren in TGM is killing me, i know all about the cheat etc, but I have a version of mame (0.129) that dosn't support cheats (they were all messed up in that version with the new xml types), Is there any alternative, i.e. a hacked rom or any other method I could use?

I'd use another version of mame but my mame box is all set up now after many, many hours of tinkering over the months and I like just getting my TE stick out and flicking the switch on the wall! if not i'll just have to stick with TAP but it's unforgiving and i'm after a confidence boost with tetris right now!

thanks again, and thanks for a great community - even if i'm the worst sort of member of such a community - a lurker, you need to give yourselves a pat on the back for keeping such a niche community going. thanks!

  2. Noooo, haha. :< The easier solutions involve either upgrading to a newer version of MAME (siren bug fixed!) or using ZiNc. Anyway, I'm sure someone more in tune with the new cheats system could point you in the right direction if that's the solution you'd prefer.

While TAP's Master mode is probably going to give you a harder time in terms of grading, the speed is about the same up until level 500~600 or so. What's your best record in terms of survival so far?

Hey, no worries. :p We'd love it if more people participated, but the community and its resources are here for anyone to refer to -- one-time visitors and frequent posters alike. As long as there is love for Tetris out there, we'll be around. ;)

  3. I understand your "well configurated" mame problem, 8 years ago, I had two different emulator to play neo-geo game, another one for system 16 games, another one for capcom fighting games all because mame wasn't perfectly emulating everything :D haha, that was good old times :D
But tgm is well worth downloading a dedicated mame version for it :)
That siren bug is trully awful. Not to mention input lag in the older versions of mame (and the cheats of course)
I use shmupmame v2.2 and am very happy with it (actually, I've initially dled it to play dodonpachi daioujou but realised tap was working perfectly on it)
