TGM1

  1. Ok, so i've decided to concentrate most of my time with TGM1 (just can't get TAP to run fast enough in mame - Damn!!).

Anyway - how do you learn to deal without a firm drop at low speeds when wanting to spin or slide a piece in somewhere? Sometimes i'm just sat waiting for it to drop down and it's ruining my times. If i try to pull it down it just locks immediately!

Also, how relevant do you think TGM1 is as a game now? is it still a usefull tool and a difficult challenge to dedicate time to trying to get the GM rank? I guess what i'm trying to ask is if it is so outdated as to actually be detrimental to me in the long run to learn that specific game?

    thanks.

  2. I think it's a great place to start, and all the skills you learn will directly carry over to TAP and Ti.

About overhangs, you'll learn to avoid them, you'll learn to make holes in out of the way places, and you'll learn to soft drop until the piece almost hits the ground to save you time. This will come naturally but if you want to speed things up you can watch some TGM1 videos and really concentrate on them to try and follow the decision making.

Yeah, if you're relatively new to the series, TGM1 might be a good place to just pick up on many of the nuances introduced. TAP and Ti may be overwhelming at this stage. Though TGM1 lacks some vital mechanics introduced in the later games, the core gameplay is mostly the same. Once you feel fairly confident with TGM1, give the others a try.

  4. The thing is that if you can't finish TGM1, you won't be able to clear TAP, much less deal with Ti's insane speeds.
Learn to walk before you run... though I do empathize with you on the lack of sonic drop. That should, however, train your 0G play to avoid overhangs and put holes on the side where they belong. [IMG]

  5. Unless your a retard like me, who decided to learn the Ti stacking first. I can finish Special-Ti in texmaster consistently, but cannot finish TAP.
Though now I am moving to only TAP for a while.

I've pushed TAP aside and am focusing on Ti, for me it's more fun. I like that hold piece, and coming off of SRS makes the more forgiving I's in Ti easier for me.
I can't finish special Ti tho.. I'm still waiting to break into 800. TAP and TGM i've hit 699 quite a few times, 700+ is being very elusive.
TAP actually runs better then TGM for me, TGM seems to be the buggy one.
almost two months of joy stick play and I'm still trying to "use the force" it's getting easier tho.
addicted. what other game can you just play over and over month after month after year...

  8. Learning to consistently stack with 1piece preview and no hold is hard even in 0G. You tend to get multiple deep holes until you have a lot of experience.

m:) - are you running TGM1 in MAME? Run it in ZiNC.

  9. I really like TGM1. It's a good stacking exercise and surprisingly difficult despite its apparent simplicity. For me it's a psychological game. As soon as I get above 800 I start getting nervous and usually fuck up. It's difficult to play consistently even on the lower levels when you are trying to get through them as quick as possible. To improve your speed you have to have a really tall stack in the low levels but that's very dangerous also.

I think it's a great game to practice ARS rotation. The hard drop tricks you can do in TAP just come naturally after learning TGM1.

ut oh, going off topic.... Is AC fun?? I have never played it, or heard of it until it came out for wii.

However I am interested because I have a tortoise named tortimer. I was playing Brawl and won the tortimer trophy, I thought i had a creative name for my guy.

as of now my only interest in the game is that tortimer is in it.

  12. Though this is obviously subjective, the short answer is no, it's not fun. It's a game built around grinding, fetch quests, and customizing appearances. It's very repetitive, and none of the gameplay has meat to it.
